Dear Grace Life Church Family,
What’s a reverberation? A reverberation is an echo of a prior sound, a continuing effect or a repercussion. I’d like to start a weekly blog post called Reverb. The idea is just a brief follow-up on the prior Sunday’s message. Most of the time it will be short with just a brief quote or thought that further develops what God is doing in and through the Bible passage we studied. With no further introduction, here it is.
Yesterday was probably one of the more challenging talks I’ve given since I became pastor of Grace Life nearly four years ago. Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage 101 is how we referred to it. Here are some additional quotes that I did not include, but found to be incredibly wise and reflecting scriptural truth:
Husbands and wives, recognize that in marriage you have become one flesh. If you live for your private pleasure at the expense of your spouse, you are living against yourself and destroying your joy. But if you devote yourself with all your heart to the holy joy of your spouse, you will also be living for your joy and making a marriage after the image of Christ and His church.
~ John Piper ~
Since the marriage relationship is to reflect the relationship between Jesus Christ and His Church, it is imperative that biblical submission and love be practiced in all of its aspects between husband and wife.
~ John C. Broger ~
When God stands as witness to the covenant promises of a marriage it becomes more than a merely human agreement. God is not a passive bystander at a wedding ceremony. In effect he says, I have seen this, I confirm it and I record it in heaven. And I bestow upon this covenant by My presence and My purpose the dignity of being an image of My own covenant with My wife, the church.
~ John Piper ~
God’s Word is the perfect guidebook for marriage, and those who live by His Word will reap the blessings that obedience brings.

I am praying for you this week, desiring that you would experience Christ’s presence through His Word!
